GST billing and stock control for a retail business with more than one shelf

A retail business runs on getting stock to the right place and getting the tax right on every sale. Invoice2Track's retail mode handles both properly: full GST billing with automatic CGST/SGST/IGST treatment on every invoice, and — for shops running a godown alongside one or more stores — stock tracked separately per location, moved between them with the Delivery Challan GST actually requires for goods in transit.

How it actually works

The retail shop workflow, step by step

01

Set up GST once

Enter your GSTIN and state in Settings. From then on, every invoice automatically applies CGST+SGST for a same-state customer or IGST for an inter-state one — you never calculate this by hand, and it's correct on every bill from day one.

02

Bring in your catalog

Import your existing product list from Excel in one pass — matched intelligently by SKU or name, not dumped in as duplicates. Set an HSN code and GST rate once per product, organized into categories for reporting later.

03

Stock arrives at the godown

Record a purchase from your vendor — stock increases at your godown location the moment it's received, tracked separately from what's on the shop floor. Partial vendor payments are tracked against the purchase from day one.

04

Transfer stock to the store

Move inventory from the godown to a specific store with a Stock Transfer — this generates a proper Delivery Challan automatically, the document GST rules require to accompany goods in transit when no sale is involved.

05

Sell at the counter

Every sale deducts from that specific store's stock, not a single company-wide total — so you always know what's actually on the shelf at each location, not just what exists somewhere across the business.

06

Reconcile and report

Payables Aging shows what you owe every vendor and how overdue it is. Stock by Location shows what's on hand where. Sales by Category shows revenue broken down by product category — all without manual spreadsheet work.

Built for this

Every capability, in detail

🧾

Automatic GST billing

CGST/SGST or IGST applied correctly on every invoice based on your state versus your customer's — HSN codes printed on every line.

🏬

Multi-location inventory

Track stock separately across a godown and every store, instead of one combined total that doesn't reflect what's actually where.

📦

Godown stock transfers

Move stock between your own locations with a real Delivery Challan generated automatically — the document GST rules require for goods in transit.

💸

Vendor payment tracking

Every purchase tracks what's paid and what's still owed, with a full payables aging report across every vendor.

📥

Bulk Excel import

Bring your entire product catalog in from a spreadsheet at once, matched and updated intelligently rather than duplicated.

🏷️

Category-based reporting

Organize products into categories and see revenue broken down the same way, over any date range.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need multiple locations to use this, or does it work for a single shop too?

Multi-location inventory is entirely opt-in — a single-shop business can leave it off and everything behaves as one combined stock total. Turn it on only if you're actually running a godown or more than one store.

How does GST actually get calculated on an invoice?

Once your GSTIN and state are set, every invoice compares your state to the customer's — same state applies CGST+SGST, different state applies IGST — automatically, on every invoice, with no manual calculation.

What happens when I move stock from my godown to a store?

A Stock Transfer generates a Delivery Challan automatically — the document required to accompany goods in transit between your own locations when there's no sale involved. Stock decreases at the source and increases at the destination in the same step.

Can I bring in my existing product list instead of typing everything in by hand?

Yes — Products → Import Excel accepts a spreadsheet and matches products intelligently by SKU or name, updating existing ones and creating new ones, rather than creating duplicates.
